Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends, or simply BubbleFong Friends, is an upcoming blockchain-based puzzle game developed by Day1Entertainment, published by CityLabs, and licensed by The Pinkfong Company. The game features the cast of Pinkfong Wonderstar as playable characters. Notably, the game has tie-in non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The player is able to earn items and convert them into NFTs. They can then be traded to other players, or sold on a designated marketplace.^[3]

Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends is inspired by the classic arcade-puzzle games that have stood the test of time. We started this project with the ultimate goal and mission of pioneering the popularization and generalization of Play-to-Earn (P2E) through Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends. We aim to provide a new-generation gaming experience to our players by combining both modern and classic gaming genres so all types of players can enjoy Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends together.^[4]

Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends gameplay is a combination of the casual bubble-shooter and battle royale game styles that has been matched with the globally renowned The Pinkfong Company’s ‘Pinkfong Wonderstar’ and ‘Pinkfong Baby Shark’ characters and story. Over the course of playing Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends, players are able to earn and play with all of the game's ‘Pinkfong Wonderstar’ Main Characters and ‘Baby Shark’ Partner Characters.
[...] Additionally, there are multiple competitive game modes, such as Team Battle, Single Play, and the 101 Battle Royale. 101 Battle Royale is a 101-player simultaneous battle royale mode that will give our players the same competitive feeling as if they were competing on a live esports stage.^[5]

Gameplay

The main gameplay comprises four modes: a 101-player battle royale mode, a 4v4 team battle mode, a ranked mode, and a single-player story mode.

In 101 Battle Royale, the player competes against 100 other players. In order to win the game, the player must be the last remaining.

Official description: We have combined the classic bubble-shooter game style with the Battle Royale style – a combination that has already proven popular with the recent success of Tetris 99 and Pac-Man 99. With this, we have developed the 101 Battle Royale mode that allows players to play against 100 players at the same time. The more a player strengthens their Main and Partner Characters, the more advantages they will have. In 101 Battle Royale, players can experience dynamic gameplay by competing in real-time with players from all around the world.^[6]

Team Battles are played by two teams of four players. Unlike the Battle Royale mode, the player must cooperate with their team to win the game.

Official description: The defining characteristics of Team Battle are that it is played with two teams of four players and cooperative play between team members is vital to perform an effective attack on the opposing team. Therefore, the tempo of the game mode is very fast and requires strategic play from the players. The key ‘fun factor’ in Team Battle is that even if one team is at a disadvantage, they are able to come back from the unfavorable situation through strong strategy and teamwork.^[7]

Ranked Mode allows the player to enter a leaderboard where they earn Ranked Points based on their performance in the other two online modes. The player must opt in to this mode; by default, non-participants will not earn any points.

Official description: Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends competitive ranked league will be held seasonally in the 101 Battle Royale and Team Battle game modes. When a player participates in the ranked mode, they can earn Ranked Points (hereinafter referred to as RP). Players are assigned to ranked tiers based on their RP, and the ranked ladder is divided into 4 tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and, Diamond. Each tier is subdivided into stages III to I. When a new season starts, players will need to play through Tier Placement Matches. New players will automatically start from the lowest tier, Bronze III, and players who participated in previous seasons will be assigned their starting tiers based on their Tier Placement Matches results. After the league season is over, players will earn a variety of rewards according to their final ranking.^[8]

In Story Mode, the player is able to play the game in a single-player environment. This is the only mode that is accessible offline.

Official description: Players can play the PvE Single Player Mode at their own leisure, whether online or offline. Players can also learn about the Pinkfong and Baby Shark universes in the ‘Story Mode’. Players will select a character and progress through their stories step-by-step. Materials to progress characters are earned through completing Story Mode levels. Characters that have been leveled up in this game mode can be used later in all other game modes, as well.^[9]

Characters

There are two separate character classes: Main and Partner. Main characters come in 4 different rarities/"grades", N, R, SR, and SSR. Partner characters come in N, R, and SR rarities. Characters can be leveled up using in-game currency and special materials (for example, Pinkfong uses telescope materials to upgrade) or duplicate character cards. While main characters are available through obtaining character cards, partner characters can only be acquired through the purchase of NFTs.

Main Characters

Official description: These Wonderstar friends have gone for a swim and joined their Baby Shark pals in the Baby Shark BubbleFong Friends universe. All eight Pinkfong Wonderstar characters listed above are obtainable in the marketplace. Future content updates will include the adoption of more of our favorite Wonderstar friends. Each character has their own characteristics and personality which are all reflected in the game. For example, Wonder Village's most mischievous character, Billi, uses a skill that randomly creates a black fog to obstruct the opponent's view. As Billi’s level increases, so does the duration of the black fog. There are two primary ways for players to obtain the Pinkfong Main Characters: Characters can be activated by obtaining their character card and can be purchased on the NFT BBF Market. ^[10]

Partner Characters

Official description: They [Partner Characters] serve as companions to assist the Wonderstar characters by bringing additional passive game effects. Depending on the skill effect, the Partner Character may aid the player’s own gameplay or hinder opposing players. The Partner Character's effect strengths will vary according to the Partner’s rank.^[11]
